LIVING IN THE PAST'... LIVING IN THE PRESENT This is my definitive sentence about 'Living In The Past'. That is a compilation but... That I classified as an album. And also if Lp and MC have 21 songs and CD only 19... I think that the final result not change Living In The Past', for sure, is one of the best 'Best Of...' in the history of music....

after a two year absence from recording, a covers record is a strange (and risky) item to issue by any band, much less one that has been, even at its most cohesive, a loose-knit collection of friends nonetheless, Vetiver 's one constant member, Andy Cabic has done exactly that with Thing of the Past , a 12-song collection that features tracks by...

New Wax I like covers as much as the next guy, when I heard that San Francisco freak-folk band Vetiver was opting for a full album of covers rather than new material, I could't help but cringe. I really enjoyed their self-titled 2004 debut and their 2006 album To Find Me Gone, so I was hankering for some new songs. Luckily the band's new album...

Past Lives - Strange Symmetry (2008)

Obviously the Blood Brothers hadn't finished what they set out to do. Late 2007 the band called it quits but they are all together again with a project cleverly called Past Lives . And while the Past Lives sound may be considered a little more refined than that of The Blood Brothers you really can't deny that these are the same dudes That...

Disconnecting in the past

2008-12-05 00:00:00 by newmusicrebloggers in New Music reBlog

I'm grateful to everyone who joined in our recent discussion, about ways that classical music isn't connected to our present world. And that includes people who disagree with me, who are always welcome here, and who often teach me a lot Soon enough I'll post my own revised list of ways in which classical music doesn't connect. But first, here's...

V.A. - The Two Tone Compilation - A Checkered Past [1993]

This is the best 2nd Wave Ska (UK) compilation out there, period. It contains all the singles from the 2 Tone imprint (except Elvis Costello because of copyright constraints). Chances are, you've heard most of these on the radio at one time or another, back when radio was still ska-friendly (what happened?). Two Tone Compilation: A Checkered...

Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past," said George Orwell memorably in 1 984 , and so it must ever be as we constantly re-evaluate what-was- once as we head on to who-knows-where Such thoughts came to mind when taking in a glorious and visceral performance of Carl Orff's great Carmina Burana...
