ZAPPA, FRANK - Absolutely Free (1967) [rated 4/5 by cookieacquired]

Absolutely Free was Zappa and the Mother's sophmore album and does seem to fall prey to the sophmore slump. A good litmus test for whether you'll enjoy Absolutely Free is to go back and listen to the last few songs off of Freak Out!. If those were too weird for you, then run away, right now, as Absolutely Free does some serious experimenting If...

...Absolutely Fabulous ", one of my favourite shows ever. I used to have such a laugh watching an always drunk Edina driving her daughter crazy, with a little help from Patsy. The title track ended up becoming an obscure Pet Shop Boys classic in the 90s, sampling spoken lines from the show itself to its stomping eurodance beat. Anyone fancy a...

ZAPPA, FRANK - Absolutely Free (1967) [rated 5/5 by UMUR]

...Absolutely Free. This is an even greater album than their debut Freak Out ! Which I think is an excellent album. Absolutely Free could be called a concept album even though more concepts blend together Plastic People starts the album of, but is in fact more in the same concept as the songs on side 2 of the LP version. This is political and...

...Absolutely Free is a great album and the music does justice to the album title as it breaks all the barriers of conventional music and just is whatever the artists wants it to be. Fun and quality rolled into one, deceptively simple or franticly odd. A great listen, judge yourself, and take the time to let the music sink in by tuxon ZAPPA,...

...Absolutely Free shows Frank Zappa as a composer first. Amazing arrangements, very ahead for their time. 1967 was the start of the Psychedelic scene, but Zappa seemed don't care about any tendency, he played what he liked to play. This record can be considered, in my opinion, a Proto-Prog album, it contains Jazzy passages, Blues-rock phrases,...
