Bryn Christopher is a wonderful new English singer with a voice like a runaway freight train. His talent got him the sought-after support slot on Amy Winehouse’s tour at the end of last year while he was still totally unknown, but the secret is out now.

Bryn’s debut album, ‘My World’, was produced by Midi Mafia, who recently secured the exclusive rights to use samples from the infamous Stax Records catalogue and have used some of these for the first time ever on Bryn’s album, making it a rare gem indeed.

‘The Quest’ EP (digital) will be released by Interscope on September 16, 2008, followed by his full-length, ‘My World’, on January 13, 2009 (dates subject to change).

Bryn wrote his first single, “The Quest” on his mobile phone, and draws on his brother’s personal experience as a soldier stationed in Basra.

“The Quest” is also being used in promo spots running this month for the upcoming season of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Listen to Bryn Christopher (streams):

Bryn Christopher US tour dates:

Monday, September 22, 2008 - Los Angeles - Viper Room - 8:00pm Show
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - New York - Joes Pub - 7:30pm Show

UK Press:

“The Quest is quite brilliant and that is all there is to it” Popjustice - Song of the day

“The Quest offers a remodelled vision of smoke-filled Harlem joints, of sweat dripping from a performer’s brow and with it a reminder that being a soul singer is not simply about having a cracking voice.” Times Online – Track of the Day

Capitol Records will release Dave Koz - Greatest Hits on September 16th, 2008.

It’s a fitting time for a career retrospective of the renowned instrumentalist/composer, with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recently announcing that Koz will be honored with a star in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame in 2009.

Dave has had numerous No. 1 singles and No. 1 albums and been honored with six GRAMMY nominations and an NAACP Image award nod.

Although Dave Koz - Greatest Hits is packed with Koz classics, documenting a career with incredible longevity and diversity, it also provides a sneak preview of Dave’s next chapter with four brand new compositions.

“Life In The Fast Lane,” the first single, was most added for three consecutive weeks and is already at No. 12 on the charts. “I wrote it with Darren Rahn, one of the great up-and-coming writer/producers of today, and it reminds me of the pace my life has taken over the past 18 years,” says Dave. “It certainly feels like I’ve been traveling in the fast lane and absolutely enjoying every bit of the ride.”

“And Then I Knew,” another new song, was produced by his friend Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Alanis Morissette). Although the two have known each other since second grade, this marks the first time the GRAMMY-winning producer has produced one of Dave’s songs and his first time producing an instrumental artist.

Other new tunes include “I Can” featuring BeBe Winans and “Bada Bing” featuring Jeff Golub.

Signed to Capitol by legendary music executive Bruce Lundvall, Koz has remained with the same label for nearly 20 years.

His self-titled debut album was released in 1990 and yielded numerous hits, including his first No. 1 single, “Castle of Dreams,” and “Emily,” a track he co-wrote with Bobby Caldwell and Jeff Lorber. Both are included on Dave Koz - Greatest Hits.

Other highlights include “You Make Me Smile,” Koz’s signature song, and “Faces of the Heart” from his first Gold album, 1993’s Lucky Man. (”Faces of the Heart” was the theme song for ABC’s “General Hospital” for 10 years.)

His follow-up, Off the Beaten Path, was accompanied by a PBS special of the same name, and featured a more organic sound. The 1996 album’s “Lullaby for a Rainy Night” is still one of Koz’s all-time favorites.

The swinging retro funk/hip-hop track “Can’t Let You Go (Sha La Song)” featuring the late Luther Vandross on vocals was one of two No. 1 hits from 1999’s The Dance, which, like Lucky Man, went Gold. Saxophonic, released in 2003, garnered Koz two GRAMMY nominations spanning two consecutive years. Like Lucky Man and The Dance before it, Saxophonic spent over 100 weeks on the charts. Included here are the breezy “Love Changes Everything” featuring Brian McKnight and the funk-inflected No. 1 singles “Honey-Dipped” and “All I See Is You.”

In addition to recording a string of successful albums, Dave has found the time to host a weekly syndicated radio show (”Dave Koz Radio Show,” now in its tenth year, is heard in approximately 120 markets) and a daily afternoon radio show nationally distributed on the Smooth Jazz Radio Network, tour worldwide (his summer and fall shows are staples of the touring industry and his “Dave Koz & Friends at Sea” outing is in its fourth year) and co-found an independent record label, Rendezvous Entertainment. He is also a dedicated philanthropist, serving as longtime Global Ambassador for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and as an ongoing member of the Board of Governors for the GRAMMY Foundation.

“An artist’s career is a two-way street and I am grateful for my fans’ help in navigating me through this adventure,” says Dave, who will wrap up his summer tour on September 27th with a performance at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre. Thereafter he’ll tour Japan before embarking on the fourth annual “Dave Koz & Friends At Sea” cruise on Holland America Line’s m/s Westerdam. (Visit http://www.davekozcruise.com for further details.) Dates for the annual “Dave Koz and Friends A Smooth Jazz Christmas” tour will be announced shortly.

Like other acts in music history _ most notably, the Beatles _ the Dave Matthews Band consisted of easily identifiable, and vastly different, characters.

Matthews was the charismatic and passionate front man, the focal point in both name and fame. Carter Beauford starred as the gum-chewing, fun-loving drum virtuoso, a more affable version of Neil Peart for the band’s college-age crowd. Boyd Tinsley was the flamboyant violinist, who liked to show off his muscles and dominate the spotlight whenever possible. Bassist Stefan Lessard, who joined DMB at age 16, was the young buck who grew more confident with each tour.

And there was LeRoi Moore, who seemed to fill the role as “the quiet one.” Moore, who reportedly suffered from stage fright, always stood off to the side of the stage in concert and seemed to shun the spotlight. He wore dark sunglasses, moved as little as possible, and delivered stunning solos on his saxophone.

Moore was the “jazz guy” in this band of rock ‘n’ roll stars.

Sadly, the jazz guy has blown his last note. Moore died unexpectedly on Tuesday (Aug. 19) after months of suffering from serious injuries sustained from crashing an all-terrain vehicle on his Virginia farm. His last breathe was exhaled at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, mere miles from where his mates in the Dave Matthews Band would perform at the Staples Center in Los Angeles later that night. He was 46. (Read the obit here.)

The show, as they say, must go on. According to promoters, the Dave Matthews Band will honor its NorCal commitments and appear as scheduled on Aug. 25 at Raley Field in Sacramento and Sept. 5-7 at the UC Greek in Berkeley.

Though there’s no way to know for sure, I have to think that’s how Moore would have wanted it. Moore, you see, was a man who clearly loved live music _ and I can’t imagine that he’d have wanted local fans to miss out on these shows.

He was also a great musician. The Dave Matthews Band took a lot of knocks from the jam-band world because its front man wasn’t as overtly skilled an instrumentalist as, say, the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia or Phish’s Trey Anastasio. Matthews, however, could spot real delight and he loaded his band with stellar players.

Moore was one of the first three members of the Dave Matthews Band (along with Matthews, of course, and Beauford). He co-wrote some of the group’s most beloved songs, like “Too Much” and “Stay,” and arranged much of its music. His saxophone work, as much anything, defined the band’s groundbreaking jazz-meets-jam sound.

I’ve been listening to the Dave Matthews Band longer than most. My journey began when the group performed a 1994 gig at the tiny (now defunct) Palookaville in Santa Cruz and has continued to this day. I watched as the group became Rolling Stones-size, able to perform multiple nights at 60,000-plus-capacity football stadiums, and I’m looking forward to seeing it in Berkeley next month.

To be honest, I’m a Carter guy. The main thing that draws me to these shows is Beauford’s sensational drumming, which ranks among the best I’ve seen in decades of covering live rock music. Moore’s contributions, however, were more subtle, though no less important to the mix.

If you’ll indulge me, I’d like to end this piece with a personal anecdote. During one of my many regular trips to Yoshi’s at Jack London Square in Oakland, I ran into Moore and DMB sideman/pianist Butch Taylor. The band was in town for a two-night stand at Shoreline, back in 2006, and the Moore and Taylor arrived a bit early to catch a set by jazz-great Oscar Peterson.

I introduced myself to Moore and the conversation immediately turned to jazz. The saxophonist _ who was obviously glad that I didn’t ask questions like “What’s Dave Matthews really like?” _ was really in the mood to talk about jazz history. We chatted Coltrane and Peterson, among other things, and, for that moment, it wasn’t some critic talking to a multi-platinum artist. It was just two jazz geeks sharing thoughts and enthusiasm about a genre they both loved.

I knew I’d remember that conversation for, well, ever. I assumed that Moore would forget about it minutes later. Yet, the next day, I was talking to a local promoter and she mentioned that Moore had said he’d met me and that we had a nice chat.

Moore remembered me. And, in turn, I’m proud to remember him.

French-Canadian DJ/Producer Matt Cerf is a familiar face in the Los Angeles dance scene. From his beginnings in 2001 as one-fourth of the group Second Sun, to his teaming up in Los Angeles with Producer/DJ partner Shawn Mitiska in 2004, and the addition of Singer/Songwriter Jaren in 2005, Matt’s enabled himself to carve out a comfortable niche.

As a producer, Matt’s original tracks and remixes have come to the forefront in recent times with notable releases on leading labels such as Baroque, Armada, Somatic Sense, DeepBlue and Sirup. He has remixed tracks for several other notable producers, including Serge Devant “Surround U”, Eelke Kleijn “Life Passing By”, and Lange “Songless”. The diverse support for his tracks, including A-list DJ names such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and Above & Beyond, has helped his productions find their way onto best selling compilations such as Armada’s A State of Trance 2007, Armada at Ibiza - Summer 2007, Armada Best of House 2007, Armada Best of Trance 2007, and over a dozen others. The electronic music trio of Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren began in 2006, and have since released over ten original tracks, including “Light The Skies”, “Saved Again”, “Me & You”, “Down To You”, and “Let Me Breathe”. In 2008, “Light The Skies” was nominated for an IDMA for “Best Progressive Trance/House Track”.

It’s hard to say what the future will bring, but one thing is certain: the sound of Matt Cerf is destined to be an instrumental force in helping to bring electronic dance music to a new level. This month, the brand new single from ‘You Never Said’ with Dash Berlin, Randy Boyer & Eric Tadla, and Rowald Steyn mixes is out worldwide on major digital download sites including Beatport and Audiojelly. Be sure to take a listen and read on for an interview with the man himself…

What made you want to become a DJ/Producer?
In 1996, I discovered dance music and started to listen to it on a regular basis. Right after that, I started using the program “Rebirth”, but at this point it was only for fun. One day I came up with a chord progression and showed it to a friend of mine, which prompted us to team up with the other members of Second Sun. Together, we created Empire, which got signed to Vandit Records in 2001 (Paul Van Dyk’s label). At this point, I really thought something big was happening..

When and why did you make the decision to move from Quebec to Los Angeles?
With a record deal like this, we all decided to move to Los Angeles and try our luck there. We didn’t have the easiest life when we got here and soon after our arrival, Second Sun and I split up. Then, I had to kind of start over.

Do you think it’s a lot easier to produce nowadays?
I would say it is a lot easier to make music nowadays, but it is also easier to make bad music. I still have a lot to learn in music production. Since I am using Logic, it is still very hard at times to come up with a final product.

Is that a good or a bad thing?
I think it has its pro and cons. As I mentioned earlier, incredible talent can be discovered this way as well!

Which one of your productions is the most special for you?
Well I have phases: I get stuck on songs for a while, and then I get tired of them. Every time I produce something new, that is the one that becomes the most special for me.

Do you prefer DJ’ing or Producing?
Each field has its plus. Coming up with a song is a great feeling, but playing it in front of thousands of people is also great. So, I think the combination of the two must be better.

You have been in the industry for a number of years now. Do you think your style has changed through this time and how would you describe your current style?
Electronic Dance Music has changed a lot since I started, but I really like a wide range of style: House, Electro, Progressive, Trance. I think my style reflects a bit of everything.

Some people are critical of trance at and refer back to the glory days of the 90’s and complain that today’s music just isn’t as good, what are your opinions on the music out currently?
As I said before, a lot of bad music is coming out these days. But, if one has the patience to go through it all, he will be able to find some really good stuff, if not better than before!

Would you like to share a usable tip for the up and coming DJ?
There is always a better DJ than you!

What three things could you not live without?
Jaren, my computer, and French cuisine!!!
