In honor of these last 20 years of hard work, and the years of work ahead, Radio Riel is presenting a program of music from around the world. Gabrielle Riel will be broadcasting the dedication ceremony of the new sim for HIV/AIDS education, outreach and support live from the Karuna Sim from 10:00am - 11:00am on Radio Riel's Main Stream.

Thanks to a generous grant from the National Library of Medicine, a brand new island dedicated to HIV/AIDS education, outreach, and support will open in Second Life on December 1 - World AIDS Day, 2008.

Christened Karuna, a word taken from an early Indo-Aryan language, the name of the island embodies the desire to remove harm and suffering, and to bring about the well-being and happiness of others.

Karuna team members include AIDS/HIV support group leaders as well as AIDS content information experts and educators, ensuring that the best, most recent, evidence-based information is available.

The project objective is to empower individuals in healthcare decision making. Through this project, one-to-one health information reference services are provided by experienced medical and consumer health librarians.

In addition to providing infomation resources, support, and networking opportunities, Karuna is built around a Garden of Experience, where the experiences of those dealing with HIV/AIDS will be shared in a variety of formats including poetry, photos, music, and video.

We are proud to be working with other organizations in this effort, including AIDS.gov, the University of North Carolina Center for AIDS research, Community Outreach, Dissemination, and Education Office (CFAR), and most recently, by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

Together, we work to ensure that the idea of community is foremost. Individuals are at the heart of Karuna, and it is through sharing tales and human connections that we find our best selves.

Damn she is a busy lady aint she?! Check out the trailer for Beyonce's new movie 'Cadillac Records' due out in the States on Dec 5th. The film also stars Mos Def, Cedric The Entertainer & Gabrielle Union. I was kinda late watching 'Dream Girls' so Im gonna try to watch this as soon as I can.

Gabrielle Union sat down with the Boots Girls recently while in Chicago for a charity event.

The girls asked Gabby about her BFF Beyonce and here is what Gabby said:

Beyonce and I have been friends since we were teenagers. We go to the same hairstylist now and you know how those bonds are! B is such a polite, nurturing person and a joy to work with. It’s easy to work with her because she is a good friend of mine.

But how can that be? Isn’t Gabrielle Union 36 years old? That would make her a full nine years older than Beyonce. So how could they be friends since they were teenagers — unless one of them is lying about her age?

Gabby just added fuel to the rumors that Beyonce is lying about her age. I’m going to rely on my good source inside Bey’s camp who tells me that Bey’s real age is 35.

Radio Riel Sponsorship Program

The Radio Riel Sponsorship Program begins on December 1, 2008.

Radio Riel offers sponsorship to individuals and businesses that would like to contribute to our efforts in bringing our eclectic variety of music and programming to Second Life residents and listeners on the Internet.

Radio Riel is a Second Life/Internet version of an Actual Life nonprofit, public radio service, such as the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and National Public Radio (NPR). Therefore we do not run traditional radio "ads". Instead we carry sponsor messages, very much in the same style as you might find on National Public Radio in the United States.

Sponsorship earns you the following:
  • A short, on-air sponsor message similar to: "Programming on Radio Riel is is made possible in part by sponsors such as the XYZ Company. The XYZ Company, the place to fill all of your XYZ needs in Second Life. Visit the XYZ Company in the ABC Sim."
  • Your logo on the Radio Riel website with a link to your website, or your SLURL in SL.
There are two levels of sponsorship available:
  • Premium Sponsorship - $10,000 L per month, sponsor message plays on the Radio Riel Main Stream 12 times a day, every day for the month
  • Standard Sponsorship - $5,000 L per month, sponsor message plays on the Radio Riel Main Stream 6 times a day, every day for the month
Sponsor messages will not run on a schedule, but randomly throughout each 24 hour period. Therefore Premium Sponsor messages will play on average once every 2 hours and Standard Sponsor messages will play on average once every 4 hours.

Sponsor Message Guidelines

Please let Gabrielle Riel know if there is any specific information you must have in your sponsor message. Sponsor message guidelines are as follows:
  • Sponsor messages begin with a preamble that may vary slightly from message to message, of the form, "Today's programming on Radio Riel is made possible in part by" followed by the name of the sponsor.
  • Sponsor messages are a maximum of 15 seconds in length. We will consider up to 30 second messages for qualifying special events.
  • Radio Riel on-air talent will record the sponsor message.
  • Radio Riel will restrict sponsor messages to factual information about the sponsor, including location, product name and description of services.
  • Sponsor messages may contain SL location information, names of contacts to IM, web site addresses, event dates and locations.
  • Sponsor messages can contain a well-established slogan or corporate positioning statement.
