Ras Kass - Goldyn Chyld

Ras Kass, the legendary underground west coast MC, is one of those who name is always mentioned when the topic of who's the best MC comes up. Ras is a testament to the fact that it takes more then just extraordinary talent to blow up in the music industry. Kind of the opposite of Souljah Boi (talent not necessary to succeed on the rap industry). What will it take for a great emcee like Ras to make into the mainstream? I don't know and I wish I did considering what kind of music is popular now.

I plan on adding my name to the list of (credible) great rap stars. BIG, 2pac, Rakim, KRS-1, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, etc.... without being shot, killed or dying poor and under-appreciated. HOLLA!
Ras Kass interview - hiphop-elements

This is Ras Kass' third LP released in 2002. His previous albums 1996's"Soul Of Ice" and 1998's "Rasassination" had a more underground sound than this album, Goldyn Child but the more commercial sound is not too far of departure from his previous works. As the sound on his two previous albums were considered commercial back when they were released.

Golden Chyld has appereances from Mya, Phraoh Monche, Busta Rhymes,Dr Dre,DJ Kay Sly, Xzibit, Saaafir Nate Dogg, Bad Azz & Jelly Roll. This LP is loaded with producers like Dr. Dre,DJ Premier, Scott Storch, Rocwilder,Hi Tek, Battlecat & DJ Khalil and Kon Artist from D12.

Some gems to look for on this album is "FucQup" produced by Scott Storch and "C What I C" ft Pharaoh Monche. Of course the DJ Premier remix of "Goldyn Chyld" is good too.

I aslo included a couple bouns tracks from Ras' previous albums. Included is "Nature Of The Threat" (probably the Best Hip Hop song ever written) and Ras' first song "Won't Catch Me Runnin". I also added the original Dr. Dre produced "Goldeyn Chyld"

NOTE: Despite what the pic says this album is NOT mixed by Kid Capri. This was the only image of the album cover I could find.

I got something to chill to right here. The Bay Area's DJ That Girl mixes jazz, soul and downtempo grooves into something all people should enjoy. Hip Hop heads will recognize several joints sampled by Hip Hop producers over the years in this mix.

Bazooka Joe - Progressive Retro

Packed to the rim with remixes, mash-ups and re-edits, Progressive Retro will take the listener on a trip through various eras in Hip-Hop in a very unfamiliar way. Bazooka Joe proves that vinyl (& cassettes in some cases) is still a Real DJ's best friend as he renovates classic Hip-Hop 12"'s by revisiting some old rhyme styles and production techniques and blending them together in a way that sounds authentic, new and fresh.
www.myspace.com/truckjewls

DJ Bazooka Joe aka Truck Jewls, The Bronxville producer takes you on a journey of Hip Hop mashed up with funky breaks. Most of the joints are good and some just ok. However all in all this is a decent mixtape. It's not as groundbreaking or eclectic as Joe's description suggests but it's better than what you hear on top "urban" radio.

I got two ways to download for you..one for both discs and another for each individual disc.

DJ Greyboy - 15 Years Of Great West Coast Cool

For those not in know like I was DJ Greyboy has been putting it down for years combining Jazz and funky breaks to create something I think most heads will enjoy. This album features the saxophome work of Karl Denson, a longtine collborlater with Greyboy, MC's Quantic, AG & Muddie and singers Nino Moschella, Bart Davenport & Sharon Jones. I'm diggin it. It's a nice laidback partly instrumental mixture of great Hip Hop breaks and Jazz stylings. Lovers of Sade and Dido will enjoy this.

DJ Books - Aaliyah The Goddess

With four albums to her credit and a few acting roles, Aaliyah was reaching a pinnacle where many singers and actors would like to reach. Unfortunately we had to lose young Miss Aaliyah to a tragic plane accident after the shooting of her video for the song "Rock the Boat". Many people are/were saddened by the loss of this very talented young lady. We at THE THIEVES THEME PRODUCTIONS salute her with this mix that shows her talent and beautiful voice. AALIYAH THE GODDESS....R.I.P.
DJ Books,Thief's Theme

Here's another mix from DJ Books. I just got the link today (thanks S.O.U.L). I never heard that "Stickin Chickens" joint before, it's funky. I believe it's a Missy album song not a release single. I'm not a big Missy fan so maybe that's why I haven't heard it before. lol

The thief-mix to "One In A Million" is a nice idea but the execution doesn't really work. Aaliyah singing over Puffy's Last Night and Prince's Erotic City almost worked and the acapella goes of beat a few times. The "Are You That Somebody" Thief-mix, Aaliyah over a Millie beat suck ass. It's definitely beneath Baby Gurl's legacy. For the most part this is decent mix despite the "thief-mix". Anyways enjoy some Aaliyah this weekend.
R.I.P. baby gurl we still miss ya.
