Bloc Party do Oz

This blog has kinda become a running stream of consciousness of myself as I delve into my deepest and darkest musical (and sometimes erotic) thoughts.

Well what's kinda occupying my thoughts at the moment is "did I make the right decision in getting Bloc Party ticket" for their Sydney show next week?

Hmmmm...

Controversial as I imagine there are some die-hard Bloc Party fans reading this. Don't get me wrong... I love Bloc Party. I listened to their 1st and 2nd albums on repeat for a VERY long time. I saw them live in the Hordern Pavillion last year and was completely blown away by the performance.

Only problem is.... I don't dig the 3rd album as much as the first 2 albums. It's good. In fact... It's EXTREMELY good. But it doesn't quite get me excited as their other releases. Perhaps my musical taste has changed (evolved???)?

I'm sure I'm in for a good show. I have no doubt about it. Maybe I'm just dreading going to work the next day (it's during the week which blows HARD).

Well I feel like posting a pretty sweet remix of a pretty awesome producer who goes by the name of Mmmmathias. It's been playing on the old itunes on my Mac Book for a couple of weeks now and thought I would share since the concert is like... next week :)

Bloc Party - Signs (Mmmathias Remix) (YSI)

I'm heading to Melbourne on Thursday evening. Does anywhere recommend any good places to get my drunk/crunk on????? I'm sweet for Saturday coz Mindgutter is playing @ Eurotrash (which I might say is mighty exciting).

Much Love,

Mindgutter

Expect hedonism at it's finest as Trashbags celebrates New Years Eve with banging music from France's finest producer and dj plus free champagne at midnight flowing freely. With supports from the Trashbags Posse, Mindgutter, Daz the Dominant, Why Not Distrakt & others expect a solid night of destruction.

To get you excited, I've included an amazing mixtape of by Don Rimini that will have ears bleeding!

Trashbags presents:

What better way to celebrate the new year and party after Field Day than enjoy an epic battle between Trashbags finest djs.

There are some pretty interesting combinations in this lineup with Afters versing the rising producer Daz the Dominant, Cheapfrillz taking on your blogger friend Mindgutter, Smacktown VS Why Not and Wollongong toy boys Blockrockers VS CMYK.

Wassup!

Sexy sexy Diplo...

Responsible for some amazing production in his time including some awesome work with MIA.

Diplo is a pretty sweet producer but as it turns out, he can handle the decks very very well. He played at Parklife this year and I distinctly remember (yes I do have memory of this set as I wasn't THAT smashed yet) having an amazing time and dancing around like a mad man.

I also remember hearing these really infectious lyrics being blasted over the PA system:

"Wassup... Wassup! Wassup!"

Now I know this track has been officially released on beatport for a few weeks now and in blog land for even longer but I couldn't stand the thought of any trashbags kids missing out on this ripper.

Diplo - Wassup Wassup feat Rye Rye (Ddesh Remix) (YSI)

Diplo - Wassup Wassup feat Rye Rye (Crookers Happy Remix) (YSI)

I will see you all this weekend (if you are lucky enough to be in Sydney) for Kill the Radio with Grum (UK). Mindgutter will be playing also so bring a spare pair (haha that rhymes) of undies.

Much Love,

Mindgutter

Grum Interview

[Grum live @ Trashbags last week]

Well what can I say...

I am speechless (well almost speechless otherwise I wouldn't be writing anything aye?).

I saw Grum at Trashbags last week and was totally swept away and surprised in many ways. One very very pleasant surprise was that Grum played HARD. I mean REAL HARD to the glee of people dancing below. My ears were ringing for days and my liver still hurts like hell from that night (I should really see a doctor).

Another awesome surprise was that Grum played using Cdj's. Now... Almost every producer from DIM, LPP, Strip Steve and even Passions banged out the tunes using a laptop. I'm not saying this is bad, in fact I like it but usually the EXCEPTIONAL producers (which I class Grum to be in this category) use laptops (I admit that I am generalising here massively).

So it was very very refreshing to see Grum belt out bangers using Cdj's with amazing skill (I feel a bit awkward using the word turn-tablism as it is not vinyl). After seeing Grum play live @ Trashbags I can truly say:

Grum is an exceptional producer AND dj!!

Maybe I'm making too big a deal about this... But I thought I would share my thoughts as many producers are opting for the laptop rather than the CDJ.

Moving right along from my rant... I have a special treat for you.

Grum interview with Mindgutter:

1. You’re about to touch down in Australia. Have you been here before or have any expectations?

This is my first time in Australia. All I know is that the weather will be awesome (which is a big thing for a guy from England), and you guys love to party! I cant wait.

2. In your view, what’s the most exciting thing happening in music at the moment?

I am really enjoying italo disco influenced stuff like Joakim, some Tronik Youth, In Flagranti etc. It’s a nice reactionary scene to the cutup, full-on ed banger style.

3. You are currently exploding on blogs all over the world and currently the 2nd most blogged artist on Hype Machine. What do you attribute to that success and what implications does it have for you?

I know, its crazy! This was mainly due to the remix competition that we ran alongside Finger on the Pulse for my track ‘Woah. Bloggers seem to have really picked up on it and remixes have appeared everywhere.

4. The word “bloghaus” has been coined left right and centre with tongue in cheek. What does this word mean to you considering your huge blog exposure? Is Grum “bloghaus”?

I guess I make dance music which appears on blogs…so yeah? People always look for easy ways to categorise music and this is just another category. But really I think the term, and what it’s associated with represents a more progressive attitude towards dance music (which I fully agree with). The blogs have given platform to loads of dance/electro acts who are doing their own thing rather than just following trends, which I think is awesome!

5. Who are your biggest artistic influences?

I really enjoy lots of different music. Although clichéd and often repeated, music from the 80’s has a huge influence on me. It seems at that time bands and producers really wanted to experiment with all the primitive technology available, and this created some really fantastic music. People like Prince, Zapp, Roger Troutman etc. I also love and listen to a lot of italo disco; acts and producers like Kano and Bobby O.

6. Are there any interesting future collaborations with any big names in the works?

I tend to work alone when producing, although there may be a collaboration with Le Castle Vania lined up!

7. Name 5 tracks that you totally dig that compels you to play at most gigs?

The Chap – Ethnic Instrument (Joakim Remix)
Digitalism – Homezone (Proxy Remix)
Charlie Fanclub – Ethan
Beens – Rotor
Bag Raiders – Turbo Love

8. And finally… what does the future hold for Grum? New EP? Possible album?

I am actually working on my album right now which should be dropping sometime next year. Watch out for a couple of remixes coming soon too.

Well that's it from me. I would leave you with a Grum track but I don't wanna over do it as I have posted many many tracks from this producer BUT do check out his myspace.

Mindgutter will be playing right before Grum from 12 - 1:30 am so be sure to come along to Plantation for Kill the Radio and go banana's with us!

Much Love,

Mindgutter

In the Pink

Another day, another amazing Pink is Punk remix.

I like the stuff these guys are pumping out. This latest remix is definitely fresh as all hell and really puts me in a really good mood.

The thing I like most about this latest remix of theirs is the way it just bounces from a kind of fidget sound right into reggae, then bounces right back into some solid fidget again.

Tanya Stephens - It's A Pity (Pink Is Punk Remix) (YSI)

I better get back to studying aye. I have an Advanced Statistics for Psychology exam on Monday and I REALLY don't want to have to do the subject again (this is my second attempt and it is torture).

Much Love,

Mindgutter

Membranophone?

Long time readers of Trashbags Kids will know that Chewy Chocolate Cookies has a special place in my heart. I've been a big fan of this edible producer since the CCC remix of Justice came out last year.

Since then, I've had the pleasure of blogging and dropping CCC tracks and remixes at Trashbags and a variety of other parties to the glee of people on the dance floor.

And now... CCC has truly cemented that Cookies are boss when it comes to remixing. This Bonde Do Role remix is just amazing.

Adding effects to the kazoo hook and a banging bassline has turned this track into something amazing and huge.

I strongly recommend you get your hands on this beast.
