Scheiße! Apparently our loyal, dedicated, enthusiastic, and, umm, lazy LocalCut readership had other things to do with their hard earned time this week. That is to say, we didn’t receive many entries for our (admittedly rushed) contest THE GREAT STAFUCKER GIVEAWAY. But the few we got were great! We want to give a big hearty congrats to Devan Cook and Joseph Campbell, two brave souls who were on the same page as us with the whole Starfucker/German concept. Sucks for everyone else, too, because the show last night was fantastic—a nearly hour-long dance party that included all the hits (”German Love” and “Pop Song”) with deep album cuts like “Isabella of Castile” and this jittery sugar-rush of a new song with Josh and Ryan singing “in my lungs” repeatedly over a sturdy beat. Without further ado, here’s our winners:
In second place, former LocalCut contributor (come back sometime, okay?) Devan Cook placed German film director Wim Wenders and American Hero David Hasselhoff on either side of Josh Hodges. I’ll always remember Wenders for directing the video for my favorite U2 song “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” and Hasselhoff doesn’t need much of a introduction. Maybe he’s not really German, but Hooga Hooga Ooga Chakka is he close! Awesome job, Devo!
Not to be outdone, our first place winner wrote a FREAKING SONG with our theme in mind. And, guess what, it’s better than most of the Computerization songs. Neon Tigers (the alias of one Joseph Campbell) recorded a song called “German Love,” only it’s not a cover—it’s an original song featuring snippets of dialogue and references to Hasselhoff, krautrock, and this line: “You mixed your Wiener Schnitzel with my sauerkraut/ And then you lead a blitkrieg straight into my mouth.” Instant winner. I’m pretty sure that would have ended up winning no matter what, so Joseph should really feel special about this. Have a listen:
We also have to give some love to the latest (and dare I say best?) entry in Casey’s Rembrandtian cartoon series. Just look at the detail on ol’ Klaus. That’s why they pay him the big bucks!
Seriously, though, I know we didn’t give y’all much time, but I’m disappointed with the lack of responses to this. If anyone is still up to the task, we don’t have any more gift bags, but we can offer promo CDs. And lunch with the LocalCut staff. Nilina will take photos. You know you can’t resist…
