NUOVA ERA - L'ultimo Viaggio (1988)

Over the years I've had great difficulties to get exited about Italian Symphonic Prog for its overemphasised usage of organs, synths, hammonds and keyboards overall, for its somewhat tame approach and absent of dynamics, its tired vocals, boring compositions, the lack of POWER and PASSION that is very present in other mediterranean prog. Well I'm not an expert in Italian prog scene and I've only heard a few dozens of Italian albums, maybe the wrong ones, and I hope I'm wrong but that's my picture of Italian prog at the moment.

Then hearing a debut of Nuova Era got me almost wet my pants, because this is Great! Here you may forget everything I just said about lacking a passion! Because here's a strong presence of passion, strong feeling of young ambitious talents going stubbornly towards the top! I can hear it, I can Sense it in their playing, in their singing, in these compositions. This is marvelous and there's a Lots to expect from this group!

Now lets' calm down after that acclaiming... Imagine a local folk prog group playing in some 'locale notturno' , keyboardist that plays with joy, singer that is proud to sing for his village and goes for it, group that has no pressures of showing at all! That's what I hear here! Production and sounds aren't so great and there's a stong live feeling, strong feeling of LOCALITY! It's Italian prog with traditional roots, a 'nonna' sitting at the local cafe table have to be able to join the music! It's folk, it's naive and innocent, it's passionate and proud, It's Nuova Era! My honest recommendations!
