Of course no one invited me to see Weezer’s “hootenany” last night…especially after the things I’ve been saying about ‘em lately. Oh well, fuck ‘em. Here’s some video from Dave Allen over at Pampelmoose, who gets invited to everything. By the by, before you freak out angrily over Weezer covering the most overplayed Radiohead song of all—the one you’re least likely to ever hear Radiohead play (but you might catch Prince performing)—you best reckanize that it’s made up of very few chords. Meaning the “hootenany” crowd could play along. And if you just don’t get what the whole hootenany concept is about, here, I’ll link you to the Merc’s firsthand account, which is pretty good.

Nice. It’s a nice idea. My only burning question: “Was the Portland Weezer tribute band (Say It Ain’t Weezer) at the Weezer show, playing with Weezer?” And if so, who did a better job of playing the early Weezer hits? It’s all so fucking meta that I can’t imagine it actually happening. Perhaps I will find out tomorrow night at Berbati’s, when Say It Ain’t Weezer headlines there. Perhaps they’ll take a cue from their fallen namesake and ask for some audience participation.
We already showed you a video of the Weezer tribute band, but here’s the flier for their show.
