Burlingame Art and Jazz Festival set for this weekend

It’s going to be one of those busy weekends, where a “Star Trek”-style transporter device will be needed if a music fan wants to catch everything worth hearing.

On the Peninsula, the 16th annual Burlingame Art and Jazz Festival will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 9-10). The event takes place on Burlingame Avenue in that quaint city’s village-like downtown area.

Now, granted, many city-sponsored “art and jazz” festivals are a bit light on the kind of music promised by the title. This one, however, should live up to its billing, thanks to a lineup that features swing, Dixieland and Latin jazz ensembles. Headliner-caliber acts include Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums, La Orquesta d’ Soul and Voz Do Brazil.

Of course, there will also be plenty of gourmet food and wine to try, as well as shopping opportunities galore.
