Plain White T's - Stop (2001)

The Plain White T's debut album STOP made me do just that, stop. When I first started listening to this album I did not expect much at all. What I did find were some absolutely incendiary lyrics and musicianship. While it is far from perfect I believe it is the best album they have released. The vocalist, Tom Higgenson, said "This collection of songs is 100% auto-biographical to my life" and it is easy to tell when listening to the album.

The first track on the album is appropriatley named Stop and is lyrically close to perfect. While Stop is one of the better songs on the album it does not even touch the second track, Please Don't Do This. Please Don't Do This is easily the best track of the set. The lyrics tell a story, as does the entire album and its delivery is perfect. A Lonely September is single of the album and it is easy to tell why, it is easy to listen to and sounds like the most mature track out of the entire album. The Plain White T's were at their best while recording this album, they are raw, energetic, and passionate.

You can tell the band was not famous or successful and they were just trying to make it big. Let me tell you if they were trying to make it big this is a good album to do it with. STOP is a vehement example of what makes music good. While the Plain White T's did not make a perfect album they came damn close for their first try and that is all you can ask from them.
