Filipino American Jazz Festival debuts this weekend
2008-08-08 07:14:51 by Jim in The Concert Blog

If I was planning to kick off a brand new jazz festival, I certainly wouldn’t pick to do it on the same weekend that San Jose hosts its humdinger. The organizers behind the first annual San Francisco Filipino American Jazz Festival, however, are obviously more ambitious than I am.

The two-day music event is set to make its debut on Saturday and Sunday. It’s part of the larger 15th annual San Francisco Pistahan Parade and Festival at Yerba Buena Gardens. There will be afternoon performances held both days on the Pistahan Stage starting at 1 p.m. Admission is free.

The Filipino American Jazz Festival will also hold evening concerts from 5 to 9 p.m. each day at the nearby Metreon Action Theater. Tickets are $15-$30 per show, available in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/38703.

Artists set to appear at the festival include vocalist Charmaine Clamor and saxophonist Melecio Magdaluyo. For a complete lineup, and other information, visit www.sfpinoyjazzfest.com.
