in light of the post earlier today on "rosa lee mcfall" seems like an appropriate time to feature the fellas from the grateful dead as part of our weekly sunday night live series. the following tracks are excerpted from an acoustic show at the fillmore east in new york back in 1970, and the quality is fairly good considering that's, you know, forty years ago now.despite living in san francisco, mere blocks from the upper haight, even, i am by no means an expert on the dead. which is why you won't find anything too obscure among the representative songs below -- if you're interested in the rest of the show, you can find it here -- but perennial dead favorites (of mine) "uncle john's band," "ripple," and "rosa lee mcfall" are included. so i'm happy. hopefully, after you've had a chance to listen, you will be too.

the dead were famous for lots of reasons, one of them being their seminal live shows in golden gate park. there's another momentous ggp concert scheduled for this summer: the outside lands festival. if you're interested, and you should be, you can win tickets here.
