Baltimore Bands: Not Just for Baltimore Anymore
2008-08-13 11:00:00 by Judy Berman in The LimeWire Music Blog

city that reads.jpgI know, I know--I've been writing a lot about Baltimore lately. But allow me to convince you that I'm not just whistlin' Dixie about the explosion of great bands coming out of the city. No, you don't have to travel to The City that Reads (/Bleeds) to hear 29 (!) fantastic Bmore bands perform. Why? Because Charm City is coming to you!

The Baltimore Round Robin tour is hitting cities across the Northeast and Midwest. Spending two evenings in each destination, the caravan will split into "head night," which features low-key folk, experimental, and space-y music and "feet night"--high-energy punk, dance, and rock. A sprinkling of "weird round" bands will also show up among the line up for both nights.

According to the press release, here's how the Round Robin will work:

-All the bands set up at the same time along the perimeter of the room with the audience in the center
-Each band does one song per round, no breaks, back to back to back etc., until the show is completed
-There is no headliner or opener, no front row or back of the room

Another cool item to note: the over 60 performers traveling with the Round Robin tour will be driving in vegetable oil-powered vehicles.

The tour hits New York 10/17 and 10/18 at (Le) Poisson Rouge. In addition to big names like Dan Deacon and Beach House, I'm excited for Jana Hunter, Wzt Hearts, Santa Dads, Lexie Mountain Boys, Double Dagger, Videohippos, the Death Set, Smartgrowth, Nautical Almanac, and and and and... oh, I give up. I'm just really freaking psyched about the whole thing.

Full line up and tour dates under the cut.
