Major Stars are lucky enough to be on one of my favorite labels, Drag City, and I'm positive this is no accident. Lately, we've seen NYC audiences give it up for some good clean rock and roll, complete with a storm of electric guitars - set to eleven, please ... but where are the girls? In this case, we just weren't looking hard enough. Guitar goddess and Massachusetts native Kate "Village" Biggars heads up the front lines of the psyched-out (but deadly) Major Stars with fellow shredder Wayne Rogers, both of whom descended from the beloved Magic Hour, which was comprised of Village, Rogers, and ex-Galaxie 500 members Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang. The inception of Major Stars was a result of Magic Hour's demise in 1997, and in 2006, they were selected by Thurston Moore for a mainstage slot in his All Tomorrow's Parties lineup. Hint: when Thurston Moore likes you, you done good, kid. See also: MV & EE, Be Your Own Pet. Their sixth album will be released by the one and only Drag City, and it's called Mirror/Messenger.
